change-of-webhost

Well, I’m sorry to say that my shady webhost (who had not been as shady in the beginning) finally drove me out of their services. I had about a month and a half of paid time left with them (plus a free extra month for a referral, I think), which I had to forfeit, but I wasn’t sure when they were ever going to put my site back up and there’s no real way to contact them or even hold them accountable. The site had been in a rolled-back state since mid-September, and they weren’t even very good about keeping me informed concerning what they were actually doing to fix the matter.

Turns out, I think they fixed it about 12 hours after I signed up with the new (and better, for $1 more per month), but I’m not sure, because I haven’t read the notice they sent me. See, now I feel a little bad about it, and I’m avoiding whatever it is they finally said to me. Even if it was to say “hey we perfectly restored your site,” it was about three weeks late, and it would have been from a backup I made because their backup was either unreliable or . . . they didn’t really give me a solid reason.

Anyway, the site is back up, and I only lost one post in the mishap. Unfortunately this whole . . . clusterf&ck kept me from participating in the AWA post party (or post-AWA party?), so I’ll have to put my post up a little late. -_- Boo to that; how lame.

Installed Wordpress to vesperity.org

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

Well, this is it. I’ve managed to install WP to my webhost, and all seems to have gone well, except for some weird comment glitch. Not sure what’s causing that, but it sure is strange, and could potentially be very annoying. And now that I’ve gone through all this trouble (not that WP was lying about their 5-minute-install), I should probably commit myself to using it.

I’m still working on trying to get openID to work so that commenting isn’t such a an annoyance, but so far it doesn’t seem easy–that, or the plug-ins are just outdated at the moment.

If people really want to follow me, it shouldn’t be too hard, but that’s only if I can get the rss to work.

I hope I can get comfy here. And let’s hope my webhost doesn’t tank, now that I’ve left the cushion of a corporate-hosted blog.

BTW, I’m coming from here -> loreamara.livejournal.com.
