She had him by the very soul now, or maybe she had since she’d made him. But the difference, of course, was that he accepted it now. He felt it binding him like the steel she had thrust through the red anchors on his skin, pinning him to the wall of her derelict mansion. He didn’t care very much for her painful little metaphor, or the week she’d left him there in the dark to think about the bargain he’d struck with her.
But it had paid off. Still suspended, he had a clear view of what that soul of his was worth, and it was gasping and choking on its own breath in front of her. Crude nails scraped at the marble floor where it writhed, ugly and tortured, seeking to consume something it could not know existed until she offered it almost kindly in a cupped hand.
“He is Envy,” she said.
No, thought Greed, hanging his head again with a weak but satisfied smirk.
He is mine.
