Envy can have whatever face he wants, but Greed has only one in mind.

These characters do not belong to me.  I do not profit from this.

The new Sin stood. He wasn’t the pulsing mess he’d been the last time Greed had seen him, but though it was an improvement, it wasn’t what Greed expected.

Even if he didn’t know what, exactly, that was.

“Where’s your real form?” He came closer, sneering at the light hair, the thin build, the smooth face. He didn’t trade his freedom for this. “I want your real form.”

The other Sin’s eyes grew a fraction wider, and his jaw tensed, though so briefly Greed might not have noticed if he hadn’t been staring so intently. But his expression returned quickly enough to disdain, and the Sin feigned an appraisal of him, one hip sliding to the side. “Greed, I take it. She told me I didn’t have a real form.”

“Well, she lied,” Greed hissed. “It’s what she does. What form were you before you knew you could change it?”

The new Envy narrowed his eyes, plucking Greed’s hands from his shoulders with remarkable force. “How should I know? And what’s it to you?”

Everything.

It was everything to him, only he couldn’t explain why, he could never explain why he wanted anything. But this want was stronger than anything else she’d ever tempted him with, this was a gaping hole that needed to be filled, and he was so close. He knew he was close. This was everything.

“Nothing,” he growled. He turned away as the skin of his hands blackened to mirror the solid weight in the pit of his stomach. Maybe this new Sin was toying with him, as Sins so often did. Or maybe he was telling the truth.

He should never have struck a deal with her. She created him, after all. She always won in the end. He knew she did. He didn’t even know what it was he wanted and she had used his confused need like he’d tried to use her alchemy. And now he had nothing. It had been a trap, not a deal. He wasn’t satisfied, and as Greed, he was better off being sealed on one of her wretched designs.

“Watch yourself with her,” he advised, a petty offering to another like him, but an offering nonetheless. He retreated to the door still hanging crookedly from his impatient entrance, grasping its edge to pull it shut in his wake.

He stopped short at the faint sound behind him, a sensation like electricity in the air.

“You mean this one?”

Greed turned back. His eyes found him, and for a moment he didn’t breathe.

Envy kept his gaze focused on the wall to his side, arms folded over a broader chest. The dark hair running along the line of his jaw matched the short hair swept back from his forehead.

“Yeah,” Greed answered. One corner of his mouth pulled it into a smile he couldn’t explain. “That one.”
