Roy’s vengeance alters the course of Amestris, and though he’s reunited with what he’s lost, it’s nothing he would have wanted.

Not stepping out of the way soon enough didn’t rank very high on his list of regrets.
It should have. It should have felt like the costliest mistake of his life, being the one to end it, but there were others he would rather undo in its place. Maybe that was what he was doing tonight.
An eye for an eye.
Tooth for a tooth.
He fell heavily into the wall at his side, slamming his shoulder into it and not feeling it. A few feet away from him, a homunculus spit and shrieked through the blaze, but he wouldn’t for long.
“Did you think it would bring him back?” she asked from the shadows, as though she’d watched everything, never lifting a finger.
Roy smiled as he hit the ground, choking on the smoke of his own flames.
No, he couldn’t bring him back.
But this was close enough.
