Aaaah
So it’s getting pretty scary that I don’t have a job yet. Hope somebody calls me back, geez D: More resumes to go out tomorrow woo!
But on to less stressful things.
In my large amounts of free time (I MISS CRAZYLOSTSTAR) I’ve been watching some Kyo Kara Maoh and Junjou Romantica. Junjou turned out to be one of the more enjoyabe BL anime (with a potential second season, depending on how the DVD sales go), though its main couple is the only one that seems to have any substance for me. The other two relationships, while somehow intertwined with the first, just don’t connect on a realistic or emotional level. They have stories and backgrounds to accompany them, but their reactions and personalities often don’t make any sense. This anime also offers a healthy dose of “I’m going to throw you on the bed, and you’re going to fight me, even if you just said you wanted this,” which gets uncomfortable.
Seriously, it’s still hot if both parties consent. You don’t have to simulate force/protest every time, all the time.
Still hoping for a second season, though.
During other hours, I installed Mabinogi in my WoW withdrawal, searching for some game to play that my laptop could handle. It has some interesting turn-based fighting, and some remarkably realistic animal animations, but hell if its difficulty doesn’t spike. I uninstalled it.
Next up was Maple Story, but I just can’t navigate it. If you want to do quests in other cities, you either have to come up with the incredible (at low levels) sum of money to be teleported, or you have to somehow walk there, but being 2-dimensional, you can’t avoid the mobs in your way, so you’d never get there if you’re low level, trying to do other low-level quests. I don’t know if I’ll keep Maple Story either.
Finally broke down and used crazyloststar’s computer to log in to WoW, remembering the time limit on mailbox items, but I’d already lost everything in there–mostly auction items that didn’t sell, but also auction money from things that might have sold after I listed them before I left. Grumble grumble. That’s a lot of gold. Ended up killing a few hours with a lowbie rogue that seems to kill things a lot more slowly than rogues ought to.
So envious of her video card. 8D;
I can’t wait to have a job so I can buy things again. Like furniture and computer parts! Ooooooooo.

Sorry to hear that. ): Good luck with the job hunt. ♥
As for Junjou Romantica… It’s my guilty pleasure. I agree about the non-con, but for some reason I really, really like this anime. It just makes me smile.
But my favourite couple is still Hiro and Nowaki (because I don’t really like Usagi, for some reason). I don’t know why, probably because I absolutely love Hiro.

@kalamitykat: I like a lot about the art and the voice acting (Misaki has a great voice actor), it just might take me some time to warm up to the other relationships. I think Nowaki creeps me out a little because of his stalkery possessiveness (but that’s hard to avoid in any BL–their devotion is always unsettling if you look at it a certain way) but I do enjoy Hiro. As for Usagi, I think I like him because he’s a Yuki Eiri who isn’t a complete asshole, and I can accept their relationship a bit more because the reason Usagi first loved him seems more valid than in the other two cases.
I guess I’d just feel more into the relationships if character A didn’t consistently CRINGE every time character B advanced. The “fake” protests are amusing the first few times, but for characters that have supposedly been in an intimate relationship for years? It’s just a lot of mixed signals for the viewer, even if you assume they’re not truly protesting.
I mean, how many times has this happened?
A: I want to have sex with you!
B: Okay, here’s a bed!
A: OMG WHAT ARE YOU DOING STOP IT I HATE YOU
wtf is that
Also it seems a little wrong of the producers to come right out and say “there’s no second season unless you buy the first one.” Is this ransom?

I think the art is lovely, really, and the voice actors, too, yes. And I agree on Nowaki, but then again, that kid’s obsession with the professor (I forgot his name–you know, the third couple -_-) is kind of creepy to me as well (well, not as much creepy as unhealthy). But yeah, just like you said, there are hardly any BL stories that I enjoy as it is because I find most of them disturbing on some level. Particularly because of the non-con thing, yes, even if it’s just for show. Or something.
I still don’t entirely understand that. I mean, Mizaki clearly loves Usagi and yet he acts like Usagi having sex with him is something oh so bad! :/

Yes, I do think that describes it rather well. Very annoying. I mean, aside from the stuff that’s bothering me about this series, I still enjoy it a lot. Mostly for the humour and the art. I’d be kind of disappointed if there wasn’t a second season. ):
