Bookmarking a dilemma

bookmarking-a-dilemma

When I first found Blinklist, it was pretty fantastic, and boasted a lot of improvements over the bookmarking giant Del.icio.us.  By now, however, the greatest of those improvements (the ability to mark certain bookmarks as private) has already been incorporated, and all Blinklist has over Del.icio.us is an easy-to-type domain.  But my real concern here, as I was never tempted to use Del.icio.us before, is that Blinklist has become almost unusable.  It feels as though its developers have left it behind: the Firefox add-on hasn’t been updated in years, there have been no major changes aside from the removal of some useful features, and the service itself is majorly unreliable.  Even when the service is up and responding, I can’t trust it to hold on to the link I just submitted to it.  Blinklist is becoming less and less usable.

This leads me to either Del.icio.us or Ma.gnolia.  The former is no-frills but simple; the latter is gorgeous but socially complicated.  There’s no requirement to use all the social tools that Ma.gnolia boasts, but just having them there makes me feel like I’m not living up to its standards.  So despite the fact that Del.icio.us can’t seem to overcome its infatuation with pre-Windows-95 underscores, and forces me to un-private every single link I just imported, I’m choosing Del.icio.us.  So begins the edit of all 644 of my links.

    OH MAN yeah, Blinklist has been sucking balls for me too and not actually SAVING any of my links for me… which sucks, since it was a process that really worked for me for a while. Guess I’m gonna have to pick between one of those two too now, ahahaha. …and goddammit at having to manually re-import everything ahhh. D:

    On a happier note in regards to browsing, though, the new Firefox for Mac has a ttly gorgeous interface? :X

    @Erin: aaaah I’m glad about the new Firefox I didn’t notice much of a difference with the new Firefox for Windows, though I guess I wasn’t looking very hard. Apparently though a lot of people are experiencing LJ-layout issues with the new Ff . . . I only had a problem getting the stupid Flash plug-in to actually work. AS FOR BLINKLIST yeah, I can tolerate some downtime, but only if it seems like the developers are actually still working with it. I think its creators have long since moved on, and it shows. SO COME TO DEL.ICIO.US WITH MEEEE 8D;

    THE SUCKY THING though is that the only way I could import from Blinklist to Del was through its .html/browser export, and Blinklist apparently fucked it up, shoving (p) and (f) at the end of almost all my links . . . way more than just the ones that were private or favorites. So in addition to having to manually share them all, I have to edit the titles. You’d have the edit the titles on Magnolia anyway because of this, and I just found Del’s editing process to be a little swifter. (Also, you can edit URL’s at the time of saving them . . . I’m not sure if Magnolia ever did that. Also, Del has a kickass browser extension.)
