AWA 2007 Report

(I had this written pretty shortly after I got back, I just couldn’t do anything with it. >O)

The best thing about any con is the people! So I’ll start there.

Notice that according to the chart, there were 12 people at Sky’s house, including me. XD It worked out well though; it’s a big place.

TUESDAY

This con weekend for me really lasted a full week. edchii came up to stay the night on Tuesday, and Tuesday night was mostly packing. It’s a good thing that edchii’s directions brought her to my door, because there was some cell phone shenanigans and she actually had a wrong number for me. Whoops. D:

WEDNESDAY

edchii and I really meant to leave around 8am, but that ended up being more like 9am, and then we had a 12-hour drive ahead of us, which went quickly enough. With gas and a meal, we ended up rolling into Sky’s driveway a little before 11pm. It probably would have been a lot later if Dad hadn’t let us borrow his navigator, who was incredibly helpful, but often vengeful. She liked to add unreasonable delays to our arrival time, but in the end she was spot-on, probably because she updated the arrival time continuously.

By the time we moved all of our stuff in, sky_dark, psycholullaby and hakuyama were long ready for bed so they could work in the morning (teehee). I’m glad we didn’t get there any later, since they had to stay up for us. D:

THURSDAY

I remember sleeping a lot. I slept until mid-morning and slept sometime that afternoon, and I think I had cake and watched edchii repair her Ed wig. Then sky_dark came home from work, briefly, and then ran off to pick up wiccat and cryogenia from the airport while psycholullaby went to pick up hieronymousb. When psycholullaby and hieronymousb got back, we went to a showing of Conqueror of Shamballa. psycholullaby and I fangirled that particular moment where Ed tries to clap while clinging to Eckhart’s plane and nicely arches his back within a nicely fitting vest and armband <<; SHUT UP IT’S THE BEST PART IN THE MOVIE next to Roy’s return to his nomiker.

FRIDAY

Cosplayed: movie!Roy. Picked up registration after finding the actual convention with edchii and wiccat. And here’s where I can’t really remember what happened. I helped edchii and wiccat set up their dealer’s table for a bit and then I hung out with a near-constant flux of other people. In no particular order, this stuff happened:

KENYA FOUND ME AND SHE WAS HUGHES and I pretty much clung to her for the rest of the time afterwards
I shopped the dealer’s room and found a stash of K² HughesxRoy doujin (plus another one) right off the bat, which meant I had to buy them. D:

herongale, psycholullaby, yaoi_girl69, sky_dark, cryogenia, hieronymousb, hakuyama AND MAYBE OTHERS all had lunch together, and I had my first Long Island Iced Tea. I felt like a Sim.
yaoi_girl69 cosplayed Lust very nicely, and I was ready to set her bust aflame all day, but it would have been tricky in two dimensions. Cryogenia cosplayed Dante for much win! edchii was an excellent pre-movie Ed and Envy–I mean wiccat–was an ever-popular Envy. shukiai was movie!Ed.
met shanola22 and her sister cosplaying some really fantastic Lust (complete with nails!) and Sloth.

Then Friday night there was much drinking and debauchery. :D

SATURDAY

Cosplayed: funeral!Roy. Got there a bit later than Friday, which, combined with a Saturday surge in attendance, meant it was no easy feat finding a parking space. But we did, finally, and the following things happened, again in no particular order:

KENYA WAS MAROON-SUIT!HUGHES which went well with my funeral!Roy because we were all episode-25y
flame_of_chaos found me and we hung out togeths for a while
Had lunch at Chik-Fil-A with ~~Hughes~~ Kenya and friends.
My Roy cosplay proposed to Kenya’s Hughes with cryogenia’s ring in front of some kind of rose heart display. The same ring doubled for Roy’s proposal to Ed. My knee is still bruised from the cement floor.
I met Ami of cordeval.com and bought super adorable badges of Roy and Hughes from her.
at some point I bought a Hughes and Roy puzzle

Saturday night included even more drinking and debauchery and crack theatre courtesy of sky_dark’s imagination and a healthy dose of gate babies from cryogenia’s Gate cosplay.

SUNDAY

Cosplayed: Havoc.

I bought a yaoi game because it was on sale and it came with two free DVD games. <<;
I met Vic (again) and got his autograph (again) and had my picture taken with him (again–but not as Havoc!). I got to call him Boss :D
cryogenia got him to take photos with the Gate and in the Gate and so on. :D :D She also asked him what cologne he wears. It’s Tino something.
psycholullaby and yaoi_girl69 surprised me with a HughesxRoy print! It is mad lovely.

Sunday night was mostly sad and sleepy, but I did get Roy kitty ears and tail from edchii :D :D :D

MONDAY

Monday was another travel day. edchii and I had to leave around 10am so that we’d get back before midnight. The trip went faster than the way down, even if we spent more time in the dark and we never did find that Taco Bell we both wanted. :( edchii did find one when she got home on Tuesday though. Monday night was basically sleepy time because I had to go to work Tuesday morning. Julien (my cat) kept waking me up all night though because he was purring so loudly, awwwww.

And thus was AWA spent. We searched high and low for a SkyGate that might warp us from one end of the 12-hour drive to the other, but alas, we did not find one.
